Pet Hair Removal (2026): Lint Rollers, Rubber Brooms and Pet Vacuums

The right pet hair tool depends on where the hair is: a reusable roller like the ChomChom for sofas and beds, a sticky roller for clothes, a FURemover rubber broom for carpet, and a vacuum with a pet tool for everything else. This page sorts six tools by surface, with what each maker says it does. Brushing your dog or cat is the other half of the job, because every hair you catch on a brush is one you do not have to lift off the couch.

The Evercare roller was the least expensive tool here when we checked on September 28, 2026; the vacuums cost many times more, so start with the surface that bothers you most.

Rollers: reusable or sticky

The ChomChom Roller has no adhesive. You roll it back and forth over a sofa cushion or a bedspread, and, per ChomChom, the hair gets trapped "into the built-in receptacle"; you press a release button to open it and empty it. The listing names furniture, carpet, rugs, bedding and car interiors. It needs a surface you can push against, so it is a home tool, not a pocket one.

A sticky roller such as the Evercare is still the fastest fix for clothes, because you can roll it over a sleeve you are wearing. Evercare's roller has 100 sheets that tear from either end and takes its standard 4-inch refills. Evercare claims "50% more pickup per sheet," which is Evercare's comparison, not one we could check.

Buy the ChomChom if the hair is on furniture; keep an Evercare by the door for clothes.

Carpet and rugs: the rubber broom

Hair works its way into carpet pile, where a vacuum's suction may not lift it. A rubber broom drags it out. FURemover's broom has a 12.5 in rubber bristle head, and the listing says to use "short, sharp strokes while pulling towards you" to lift embedded hair from carpets and rugs. The handle telescopes from 34 to 58 in, and the head has a squeegee edge for spills on tile or hardwood.

The broom leaves the hair in a pile. Pick it up by hand or finish with a vacuum. The rubber rinses clean under the tap.

Vacuums with a pet tool

A vacuum is the one tool that deals with every surface, if it has the right head.

Handheld: Shark Cyclone PET. At 1.6 lb, per Shark, this is the one to grab for a sofa, the stairs or the car's back seat. It charges by USB, has a bagless dust cup and a washable filter, and comes with an 8 in crevice tool and a multi-surface pet tool. Shark's listing does not state a run time. The Black+Decker dustbuster furbuster, also sold by Amazon.com, is a similar size with a motorized rubber-bristle pet brush and a 2-year warranty, per Black+Decker.

Upright: Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Allergen Lift-Off. A full-size corded upright with a tangle-free brush roll, a HEPA sealed allergen system and a pod that lifts off for stairs and furniture, per Bissell. It includes a TurboEraser pet tool. At 15.7 lb it is the vacuum for a house with carpet in most rooms.

Cordless stick: Dyson V8. Dyson says its motorbar head "de-tangles wrapped long hair and pet hair as you clean," runs up to 40 minutes, and converts to a handheld for cars, stairs and upholstery. This listing comes with a crevice tool; it does not list a separate pet tool.

If long hair wraps around your current vacuum's brush roll, that is what "tangle-free" and "de-tangling" heads on the Bissell and Dyson are designed to prevent, per their makers.

Less hair to remove: brush the pet

Every tool above works after the hair has landed. Brushing catches it before it does. The ASPCA's dog grooming tips say regular brushing helps "by removing dirt, spreading natural oils throughout her coat, preventing tangles," and that how often you brush depends on coat type: once a week for smooth, short coats and for short, dense coats such as a retriever's. Its cat grooming tips say brushing "removes dirt, grease and dead hair" and suggest one or two brushings a week.

Car seats and pet beds

For the car, the ChomChom and the Shark handheld both list car interiors. Covering the seat keeps most of the hair off in the first place; our dog car seat cover guide compares hammocks, bench covers and cargo liners, all of which the makers list as machine washable.

Recalls and what we left out

None of the products above is subject to a CPSC recall we could find. Bissell has recalled other products: its Multi Reach hand and floor vacuums in February 2024 for a fire hazard, its cordless Multi-Surface wet dry vacuums in 2023, and its Steam Shot handheld steam cleaners in July 2024 for a burn hazard. The CPSC database lists a 2015 recall of Shark vacuums for a shock hazard, not the model here. None of these brands appears on our pet product recall page as of September 28, 2026.

The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser handheld was the vacuum we expected to include; on September 28, 2026 we found only replacement filters, chargers and parts for it from third-party sellers, and Bissell's newer ReadyClean FurFighter handheld was a pre-order. We found no Dyson pet grooming kit in stock from Amazon.com. The original white ChomChom was listed by a third-party seller, so we linked the black one from ChomChom's store.
